19thc Advertising Mirror
£1250
A very rare and decorative, Victorian, reverse painted advertising mirror for the services of a photography studio and dark rooms.
Dark rooms started life in England around 1839, with the popularity of photography on the rise within the rich and famous.
Dark room studios started popping up, becoming places that people could pay to use to develop their amateur photography.
This mirror dates from around 1880, as the photos show there is some loss to the reverse painted gilding, but it is still very decorative and displays well.
There are small areas of foxing to the mercury plate, commensurate with age.
On the bottom right hand corner, etched in the glass, is the makers mark John W Cullen, complete shop fitters of Leicester.
The mirror can be sold as is or if required mounted in a wooden frame.
