A 19thc toleware coal scuttle decorated in the Japanese style.
Inside the lid the makers mark is visible, made by Jewett.
The patent date stamp dates December 10 1872.
The coal scuttle is complete with fire tools ( possibly a later addition).
In very good solid condition.
